Which College Should You Go?
How do you know the right college for you? To find this out, one must understand that all colleges are similar, but it is the few different things that make college an exciting experience. Although Catawba and Appalachian are similar with the fact that they are both colleges people go to earn their masters, they differ in ways such as their location, the type of school it is, and their campus’s style.
To begin with, Catawba College is located in Salisbury, while Appalachian is in Boone. The weather in Appalachian is colder than that of Catawba because of its location in the mountains. This would mean that during the winter, Appalachian would have snow. People going to Appalachian have to consider this before filling out an application because if a person cannot stand cold temperatures, then it is advisable for them not to go to Appalachian State University. Catawba on the other hand might get cold at times, but they don’t get as much snowfall as Appalachian. Another thing to consider when deciding to go to one of the colleges is the distance away from home. Both colleges are a reasonable distance away from home; but if a person wanted to be closer to home, Catawba College would be the way to go. Appalachian is about two hours away from home and Catawba is about forty minutes away. So, if a student would like to constantly visit their parents, then the college to go would be Catawba.
The schools differ when it comes to who owns it. Catawba College is a private school, while Appalachian is a public school. This affects the sizes of the school because government owned schools are usually bigger than individually owned schools. In this case, that statement is true because Appalachian’s campus is way bigger than Catawba’s. The campus itself is different because the architecture and the style put into the schools show its own individuality. The number of students in Appalachian exceeds the number of students in Catawba partly because of the amount of room they have and also the number that they accept. Appalachian is more lenient in accepting people because it is government owned and their goal is to give opportunity to those who cannot afford it.
The cost of the colleges also differs because of the owner. Catawba’s tuition is more expensive than that of Appalachian. The residence halls in Appalachian is more than Catawba’s because of the size and the amount of people that would be living in the resident during a school year.
All in all, Catawba College and Appalachian State University are a lot of students go to for different reasons. They both offer majors in which the students can get a master degree in which ever field they choose. When looking at these colleges, the things to consider is the location, type of school, and campus style. If all a person is looking at is getting an education, then it doesn't matter which one they go to. The college that a person chooses to go to should match their personality and interest.
