What is English III About?
Here you will find the narrative, compare and contrast, and process essay. They include the first and the final essay of each type of essay. In order to write any of my essays, I had to make some kind of pre-writing plan. For the narrative essay, I chose to do a list in which I would write all the things that came to mind when I thought about a things I liked. After I did that, I slimmed it down to one thing, and then created another list that stating things that came to mind when I thought about that specific topic. This helped me slim down my options and allowed me to choose one without over thinking it. The process in which I wrote my compare and contrast essay was different than that of my narrative essay. It was different in a way that I would write out the four P's; purpose, points, pattern, and presentation. The purpose is there to decide whether or not I want to focus my paper on similarities or differences. After I chose that, I moved on to points, which is when I expanded on the points from the purpose. I would then eliminate or combine points to bring my points down to three. The next step was to choose my pattern, which could be a point to point essay or a subject to subject essay. The final step would then be to write out my layout on my topics and subtopics. For my process essay, I created an outline that stated all the instructions, step by step. This made it easy to create the video because since I had my steps laid out, all I had to do was read and demonstrate my steps. I used different pre-writing styles in writing each of my essays because some styles are best for certain essays, while others are not.
Often times there were big differences in my first and final draft which is good because one should always be willing to improve their writing skills. I was not discouraged whenever I would get my edited paper back with lots of red marks because it just means that there is room for improvement. Sometimes I would have to change to whole layout of my essay to make it flow better. Another time, I decided to completely start again because I didn't like the way the essay sounded. I made a lot of mistakes, but I also learned from my mistake which made me a stronger and better writer.
My goal was to improve my writing and become a stronger writer. I was able to achieve this through the different pre-writing styles. Before this semester, I would often jump right into writing and would get off my main topic because I didn't have a plan. I would end up going back and erasing anything that was irrelevant to the topic in which I was discussing. That wasted my time, but with the pre-writing styles I learned about, I am able to save time and stay on topic because everything would by laid out for me.
